International mobility

Mobility schemes

There exist several possibilities to facilitate the mobility of PhD students :
  • Joint supervision of a thesis, allowing you to pursue your doctorate with another university abroad,
  • Co-direction of a thesis, allowing you to pursue your doctorate with another university in France,
  • A research residency
  • Participation in international symposiums and congresses.

The mobility of PhD students is facilitated by a number of partnership agreements. The NSCo has signed a specific agreement with the Neuroscience department in the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Lyon Universities strongly support our efforts at internationalisation and has partnerships in place with the University of Ottawa (Canada), the University of Tokyo (Japan), the FUDAN and ECNU-East China Normal University in Shanghai) and the TECHNION (Israel) which makes exchanges and joint supervision of theses much easier.

Mobility funding

Mobility imposes additional expenses (travel accommodation and perhaps the cost of a visa, insurance, etc.) and therefore requires specific funding.

Longer stays require funding to be sought well in advance (at least 6-12 months) of the expected trip from among the many existing financial aid programs.

We would like to draw your attention to one programme specially designed to assist the mobility of ‘incoming’ and ‘outgoing’ PhD students :

the PhD mobility programme of the Neuroscience Graduate School

The Neuroscience Graduate School offers outgoing and incoming mobility grants for periods of 1 to 6 months. For more details, please consult the specific website.
